This is unique to a large number of Apple users that must have small hands.
My 4.3" HTC incredible is only 4mm wider than iPhone .
25.4mm = 1.0" so how can a measly 4mm be such a big deal?

i have a family plan with a 3G, 3GS and 2 cheapo phones. my wife and her parents came from Verizon. we live in NYC and no one ever complains about dropped calls. i've had a few from inside a converted factory building with very thick walls
the most dropped calls i have are to my mom in colorado who has t-mobile. those drop on a land line all the time as well

Future is lookin pretty cool.

I went to South Coast and MV, both said try back in the morning, but no guarantees. Still deciding if I want to try again in the morning and where. South Coast was a fiasco with the mall cop.

It amazes me that people who claim to be closely following Apple can come up with stuff like this. Have you ever looked at an apple product? A "gesture" home button? A profile that gets thicker towards the top? Are you KIDDING me? It's a real testament to how bad most people's design sense is: even when they're trying to invent plausible rumors about Apple, they come up with the worst freaking designs in the world.
This is like all the slide out keyboard rumors, etc., that always seem to come up--what company do you think you're talking about? Do you REALLY think Steve Jobs is going to get up on stage and unveil a sliding keyboard as the future of the iPhone? Or a "gesture home button"? Can you imagine how absurd that would sound coming out of his mouth?
Just because you have to keep the news flowing doesn't mean that you have to broadcast (and try to partially defend) any ludicrous product rumor that comes your way. I've got your next killer headline: "iPhone 5 to feature stylus, four capacitative buttons".

Because if you order one now you'll get an email back saying there was an unexpected delay. Inventory is drying up at best buy and amazon. Other threads here on the macrumor forums show that supplies are shrinking all over the world and distributors have no stock.

It is know that apple has serval prototype iPhones. This is interesting at the least but seeing 3G at the top kinda sucks. We need a 4g faster device.

I wouldn't mind this UI when iCal is toggles to full screen, but it just looks wrong next to everything else, and totally out of place. I seriously hope they reconsider. Seriously.

I'm not sure why we even need an iPhone 5.
The iPhone 4 is a great form factor. It does the job. At most what it needs is a spec jump (64GB, and maybe clock the CPU faster) and that should hold people over for another year.
I mean, before we had:
iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3Gs (pretty much the same form factor but faster CPU)
iPhone 4
I suspect we may get an iPhone 4 plus or something like that.
Also, do you people really need a new phone every year? I had my Treo 650 for nearly four years. The only reason I only kept my Palm Pre for less than a year was that it started having hardware problems.
This makes me sad. The palm pre part. It was a great phone, but unfortunately its hardware was terrible. It may have been to palm what the iPod was to Apple if only they hadn't slacked in that area. Quite a shame...

It's about time. But I've had a wireless mouse/keyboard set when I got my iMac G5 Rev. A back in the day, and I quickly got rid of it. I was sick and tired of changing the damn batteries every few weeks. I never mouse or type away from my desk, so I had no use for it, and I'd rather have the ugly wires than deal with the annoyance of buying/changing batteries often. Now, if they were rechargeable (in a dock, I don't want to have to take them out and put them in a seperate charger), I could see using them.
apple could use firewire cables (like the iPods) to recharge wireless keyboards and mice.

The fact is, we've been through this before. The iPhone 1 was going to be a huge failure because it didn't have 3G. They were concerned about coverage and battery life. It's the same issue now.
People are saying apple should make those sacrifices now to keep up with technology. But nobody is addressing the fact that apple has historical evidence that this is a sound approach.
So many people just love to see every issue from the Apple perspective. There are people who get paid for that. Should not you - as a consumer - care more about the gadget you want than Apple success?
Using two separate chips eats battery life. Not to mention LTE is still "just" coming out, so it won't be widespread enough to take advantage of it until 2012 anyway.
Apple does not have to use two chips. They could just design separate phone for Verizon (just like iPhone 4) which does not support GSM. Not ideal but that's where technology is today. At least Verizon customers could enjoy iPhone 5 with LTE.
